Beyond the Music: A Musical Geography of Mexico (UIC)

The public is invited to a special classroom version of our signature Beyond the Music program at the University of Illinois Chicago for their World Music Class with professor Elbio R. Barilari.

Sones de México Ensemble will perform 1/2 hour sets three times at 10am, 11am & 12noon, using the remaining 1/2 hour for discussion and questions.

Sones de México Ensemble performs their lively and informative free lecture demo and music show entitled “Beyond the Music: A Musical Geography of Mexico”.

Experience a guided tour through Mexico’s folk music regions with live demonstrations by the Ensemble. Find out everything you ever wanted toknow about Mexico’s regional folk culture and music (but were afraid to ask).

Sones de México Ensemble will perform a one-hour bilingual presentation featuring different regional styles of Mexican folk music using a variety of authentic instruments from as many as 12 different regions of the country.
