Enjoy songs about different animals that inhabit the Mexican ecosystem\, including the acamaya (a crawfish)\, the crocodile\, the legendary mermaid\, a mouse\, a buzzard\, a duck\, and even a cat! Clap to Mexican rhythms and learn the difference between a slow and a fast tempo with the help of Doña Sabina\, a 100-year-old special guest. \nFirst and foremost\, everyone in the audience will learn how fun it is to play and dance to Mexican music! \nFree Admission! DESCRIPTION:“Corridos of the Semiquincentennial: Voices of Courage and Hope\,” is a musical storytelling project developed by Sones de México Ensemble to honor eight national heroes through the creation and performance of eight new traditional Mexican corridos. \nCorridos are epic ballads and heroic tales that date back to the 1840s. They narrate stories and celebrate remarkable acts of courage and defiance from a folk perspective. \nJoin us for a family-friendly presentation of these and other corridos\, narrated in Spanish and English by Juan Díes and members of the ensemble\, that combines live music\, storytelling\, projected visuals\, and audience interaction. \nPresented at the Whittall Room by the American Folklife Center \nThis performance is free and open to the public. \nThis program is sponsored by a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts | America 250

DESCRIPTION:Sones de Mexico Ensemble presents “Fiesta Mexicana\,” an interactive concert for kids and their parents\, in six special free concerts for the Chicago Park District’s Night Out in the Parks series. Based on our Parents Choice Award-winning album of the same name\, the program includes songs\, storytelling and interactive games that are delivered in English and Spanish. \nThe performance will be preceded by a mask making workshop at 6 PM. \nJoin us on a journey through Mexican music and the magic world that surrounds it. Learning about the four sacred elements of nature for the Aztecs: Earth\, Wind\, Fire\, and Water. Enjoy songs about different animals that inhabit the Mexican ecosystem\, including the acamaya (a crawfish)\, the crocodile\, the legendary mermaid\, a mouse\, a buzzard\, a duck\, and even a cat! Clap to Mexican rhythms and learn the difference between a slow and a fast tempo with the help of Doña Sabina\, a 100-year-old special guest. \nFirst and foremost\, everyone in the audience will learn how fun it is to play and dance to Mexican music! \nFree Admission! Bring a camping chair or a blanket! \n“Fiesta Mexicana” is presented as part of the Chicago Park District’s Night Out in the Parks series\, supported by the Mayor’s Office and the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events. The Night Out in the Parks program presents cultural events year-round in neighborhood parks throughout the city. In partnership with local artists and organizations\, the initiative brings free\, high-quality arts programming to communities across Chicago.
