SUMMARY:Navy Pier Group Quinceañera Concert
DESCRIPTION:Navy Pier is celebrating the quinceañeras of young ladies throughout the Chicagoland area with free professional group photos on the 15th of July. Navy Pier has teamed up with the National Museum of Mexican Art to host a photo shoot for 15-year-old birthday girls on the base of the Pier’s Wave Wall staircase on the South Dock against the backdrop of the Centennial Wheel. Local young ladies are invited to gather at the Pier in their finest quinceañera dresses for a “class photo” along the lakefront with others celebrating the special milestone. \nSones de México Ensemble will celebrate along with them by performing a concert at 2:30 (after the photo shoot) on the brand new Polk Bros. Performance Lawn Stage at the entrance to the pier. \nA popular Latin American tradition\, quinceañera is a celebration of a girl’s coming of age\, marking the transition from childhood to young adulthood in the Latin American culture. As a mission-driven cultural district\, Navy Pier is proud to celebrate diversity and inclusion of people from all walks of life with free\, year-round programs and offerings such as these. \nAdmission is free and open to the public. \nMore information\, including a registration link to be in the photo\, is at https://navypier.com/events/list/#entry-10770.

SUMMARY:Los San Patricios: Mexico's Irish Heroes
DESCRIPTION:Los San Patricios: The Story of the St. Patrick’s Battalion \nA spectacular fusion of Irish & Mexican music and dance comes to the University of Notre Dame’s DeBartolo Center for the Performing Arts. \n Sones de México Ensemble along with Seán Cleland and the faculty of the Irish Music School of Chicago explore a little-known chapter in U.S. History. \nIn 1846-48\, during the Mexican-American War\, a volunteer army formed mostly by recent Irish immigrants to the U.S. who called themselves the St. Patrick’s Battalion (or Los San Patricios\, in Spanish)\, fought alongside Mexico against the U.S. expansion and its Manifest Destiny doctrine. They are regarded as heroes in Mexico to this day. \nWith music\, dance and balladry\, two of Chicago’s most prominent communities with immigrant roots\, both known for passing down traditions from generation to generation\, will bring together the fiddles\, harps\, accordions\, foot tapping and voices of Irish jigs and Mexican son to tell the story of Los San Patricios.

SUMMARY:Fiesta Mexicana Family Show in Woodstock New York!
DESCRIPTION:FIESTA MEXICANA: Mexican Songs & Stories for Niños y Niñas and their Papas & Mamás \nPresented by the Woodstock Invitational Luthiers Showcase \nADMISSION FREE! \nAncient Aztec Myths\, Cowboy Mice\, and Dancing Iguanas come together on Stage for Children and Parents with two-time Grammy Award Nominated group Sones de Mexico Ensemble. \nWhat do a crawfish\, a cowboy mouse\, and a 100-year-old woman have in common? They are all part of Fiesta Mexicana\, Sones de México Ensemble’s interactive performance for children and families based on their Parent’s Choice Award-winning album of the same name. Taking audiences of all ages on a musical tour of Mexico\, the program incorporates a diverse range of acoustic folk music and folklore with songs\, stories and dances from several regions of the country\, including Aztec\, Mayan\, Zoque\, and P’urhépecha traditions. Engaging\, entertaining\, informative and fun\, this program is presented in English and Spanish\, using dozens of different regional folk instruments. \nThe group embarks on a journey through Mexican music and the magic world that surrounds it. Children begin by learning about the four sacred elements of nature for the Aztecs: Water\, Earth\, Fire\, and Wind. Then they learn songs about different animals that inhabit the Mexican ecosystem\, like the acamaya\, the crocodile\, the legendary mermaid\, a mouse\, a buzzard\, a duck\, and even a cat! They also clap Mexican rhythms and learn the difference between a slow and a fast tempo. First and foremost\, they learn how fun it is to play and dance Mexican music.

SUMMARY:77 Beats at the National Museum of Mexican Art
DESCRIPTION:77 Beats is a unique musical and cultural travelogue of the city of Chicago. \nCome to the Pilsen neighborhood on October 9 to enjoy Sones de México Ensemble as well as the Chicago Mariachi Project and Marimba Ixchel. The concert begins at 3pm. \nADMISSION IS FREE! \nChicago is famously a “city of neighborhoods” each of which has it’s own character. The City of Chicago has designated seventy-seven neighborhoods within the city limits that include pockets of nearly every culture on our planet. 77 Beats is a vehicle for introducing Chicago to itself\, an exploration of Chicago’s music\, food and culture. \nThis event is brought to you by Old Town School of Folk Music and the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events. 77 Beats is the spiritual successor to 2015’s Iron Heart Chicago\, which staged 60 concerts by masters of traditional music on L platforms all over the city. Both initiatives are productions of the Old Town School of Folk Music\, the largest community school of the arts in the United States. \nMore information at http://77beats.org/#/home
