Based on our Parents Choice Award-winning album of the same name\, the program includes songs\, storytelling and interactive games that are delivered in English and Spanish. \nJoin us on a journey through Mexican music and the magic world that surrounds it. Learning about the four sacred elements of nature for the Aztecs: Earth\, Wind\, Fire\, and Water. Enjoy songs about different animals that inhabit the Mexican ecosystem\, including the acamaya (a crawfish)\, the crocodile\, the legendary mermaid\, a mouse\, a buzzard\, a duck\, and even a cat! Clap to Mexican rhythms and learn the difference between a slow and a fast tempo with the help of Doña Sabina\, a 100-year-old special guest. \nFirst and foremost\, everyone in the audience will learn how fun it is to play and dance Mexican music! \nCome 1/2 hour early for a Danza de Viejitos Mask Making Workshop. \nFree Admission! \n“Fiesta Mexicana” is presented as part of the Chicago Park District’s Night Out in the Parks series\, supported by the Mayor’s Office and the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events. DESCRIPTION:Beyond the Music Foodways Edition: A Music and Culinary Geography of Mexico is a lively lecture/demo presentation that combines music and cuisine with a multi-media cultural history of Mexican regions to better understand the origins of the various musical styles and regional cuisines as well as their significance to the diverse peoples that make up Mexico. \nJoin two-time GRAMMY nominated Sones de México Ensemble and award-winning chef Dudley Nieto on a journey to explore Mexico’s geography through a musical and culinary experience. \nThis series is free and open to the public and is presented in collaboration with local organizations throughout the U.S. \nThis program sponsored in part by a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts \nThis program is presented by the Chicago History Museum Civic Season series in which the Museum will serve as a space to help Chicagoans connect with their community\, build new skills\, and provide a roadmap to future community participation so we may all be more informed and engaged citizens.
