DESCRIPTION:Fiesta Mexicana is an interactive concert for kids and their parents based on our Parents Choice Award-winning album of the same name. The program includes songs\, storytelling and interactive games between the songs that are delivered in English and Spanish. \nThe group embarks on a journey through Mexican music and the magic world that surrounds it. Then they learn songs about different animals that inhabit the Mexican ecosystem\, including the acamaya (a crawfish)\, the crocodile\, the legendary mermaid\, a mouse\, a buzzard\, a duck\, and even a cat! Kids will clap Mexican rhythms and learn the difference between a slow and a fast tempo with the help of Doña Sabina\, a 100-year-old special guest. SUMMARY:Fiesta Mexicana Family Concert
Children begin by learning about the four sacred elements of nature for the Aztecs: Earth\, Wind\, Fire\, and Water. First and foremost\, everyone in the audience will learn how fun it is to play and dance Mexican music. \n$10 admission. Tickets at https://www.honeywellarts.org/live-shows/fiesta-mexicana \nFor school registration\, please visit www.honeywelleducation.org/matinee \nA Cultural Immersion Student Matinee\nPresented by Honeywell Arts & Education

SUMMARY:Goodman Theatre presents American Mariachi
DESCRIPTION:Goodman Theatre presents “American Mariachi.” \nA Co-Production with Dallas Theater Center\nProduced in association with Teatro Vista. \nPresented in collaboration with the Chicago Latino Theater Alliance and Sones de México Ensemble. \nFamilia\, amor and tradición—and breaking it—are at the heart of this “big-hearted musical tug at the heartstrings” (Denver Post). \nLucha spends her days caring for her ailing mother\, but longs to shake up her 1970s home life. When a forgotten record album sparks her mother’s memory\, Lucha and her cousin strike upon a radical idea: to create an all-female mariachi band. Infused with live mariachi music\, this “big-hearted\, musical tug at the heartstrings” (Denver Post) reveals how music and love can make just about anything possible. \nPerformances begin September 18 and run through October 24. Single tickets available soon\, but you can buy them now by purchasing a 5 play Classic Albert Series subscription. Different regions of the country have unique instruments\, repertoire and techniques rarely heard outside these regions. \nRelax\, get yourself a snack and a drink\, and take a virtual musical tour of Mexico. Let the GRAMMY™ nominated Sones de Mexico Ensemble\, a specialist in these regional styles\, be your guide in this special lecture/demo on Mexico’s musical geography. They will speak about what to listen for in the major regional styles\, give live demonstrations and take questions form the audience. It is free and open to the public. \nThis program is sponsored in part by the National Endowment for the Arts and by donations from people like you.
