SUMMARY:Fiesta Mexicana Family Show in Woodstock New York!
DESCRIPTION:FIESTA MEXICANA: Mexican Songs & Stories for Niños y Niñas and their Papas & Mamás \nPresented by the Woodstock Invitational Luthiers Showcase \nADMISSION FREE! \nAncient Aztec Myths\, Cowboy Mice\, and Dancing Iguanas come together on Stage for Children and Parents with two-time Grammy Award Nominated group Sones de Mexico Ensemble. \nWhat do a crawfish\, a cowboy mouse\, and a 100-year-old woman have in common? They are all part of Fiesta Mexicana\, Sones de México Ensemble’s interactive performance for children and families based on their Parent’s Choice Award-winning album of the same name. Taking audiences of all ages on a musical tour of Mexico\, the program incorporates a diverse range of acoustic folk music and folklore with songs\, stories and dances from several regions of the country\, including Aztec\, Mayan\, Zoque\, and P’urhépecha traditions. Engaging\, entertaining\, informative and fun\, this program is presented in English and Spanish\, using dozens of different regional folk instruments. \nThe group embarks on a journey through Mexican music and the magic world that surrounds it. Children begin by learning about the four sacred elements of nature for the Aztecs: Water\, Earth\, Fire\, and Wind. Then they learn songs about different animals that inhabit the Mexican ecosystem\, like the acamaya\, the crocodile\, the legendary mermaid\, a mouse\, a buzzard\, a duck\, and even a cat! They also clap Mexican rhythms and learn the difference between a slow and a fast tempo. First and foremost\, they learn how fun it is to play and dance Mexican music.

SUMMARY:77 Beats at the National Museum of Mexican Art
DESCRIPTION:77 Beats is a unique musical and cultural travelogue of the city of Chicago. \nCome to the Pilsen neighborhood on October 9 to enjoy Sones de México Ensemble as well as the Chicago Mariachi Project and Marimba Ixchel. The concert begins at 3pm. \nADMISSION IS FREE! \nChicago is famously a “city of neighborhoods” each of which has it’s own character. The City of Chicago has designated seventy-seven neighborhoods within the city limits that include pockets of nearly every culture on our planet. 77 Beats is a vehicle for introducing Chicago to itself\, an exploration of Chicago’s music\, food and culture. \nThis event is brought to you by Old Town School of Folk Music and the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events. 77 Beats is the spiritual successor to 2015’s Iron Heart Chicago\, which staged 60 concerts by masters of traditional music on L platforms all over the city. Both initiatives are productions of the Old Town School of Folk Music\, the largest community school of the arts in the United States. \nMore information at http://77beats.org/#/home

SUMMARY:The Big Read Presents "Beyond the Music"
DESCRIPTION:Sones de Mexico Ensemble is joining with Dominican University and several west suburban libraries to present our signature program “Beyond the Music: A Musical Geography of Mexico”. \nThe Big Read is an NEA sponsored program that is focusing on immigration-related issues through the novel “Into the Beautiful North” by Luis Alberto Urrea. The novel centers on 19-year-old protagonist Nayeli\, a taco shop worker who lives in Mexico and dreams about her father\, who journeyed to the U.S. to find work. \nRecently\, it has dawned on her that he isn’t the only man who has left town. In fact\, there are almost no men in the village — they’ve all gone north. While watching The Magnificent Seven\, Nayeli decides to go north herself and recruit seven men — her own ‘Siete Magnificos’ — to repopulate her hometown and protect it from the bandidos who plan on taking it over. \nBeyond the Music is Sones de México’s lively and entertaining lecture and demonstration that musically takes audiences on a trip through many diverse regions of Mexico and the music and culture of those areas. Learn about the roots of huapango\, son jarocho\, chilango\, tapatio and many more. \nBeyond the Music\, A Musical Geography of Mexico\, is sponsored in part by a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts. \n#arts4US
