Titled “¡Canta! Radio Recuerdos\,” this free membership club offers a unique opportunity for seniors over 60 to connect\, reminisce\, and enjoy the joy of singing from the comfort of their home. \nLed by the singer and guitarist Juan Díes\, co-founder of the two-time Grammy-nominated Sones de México Ensemble\, and hosted by program assistant Alfredo Hernández\, “¡Canta! Radio Recuerdos” invites eligible seniors to join in on the musical festivities via Zoom. This virtual singalong club is a celebration of Latin music classics from Mexico and other Latin American countries. \nRegular Singalong Club:\n• First and third Thursday of the month\n• 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM \nMemory Care Singalong:\n• Tailored for seniors with memory loss\n• Follows the regular singalong club\, starting at 12:00 PM\n• Caretakers are welcome to join \nSeptember 19: Sometimes there are no better words to express the feeling of a farewell than a song. DESCRIPTION:Sones de México Ensemble\, a two-time Grammy Award-nominated Mexican folk music non-profit organization founded in 1994 and promoter of deep dives into Mexican culture\, presents “The Black Music of Mexico” series. This captivating series explores the presence of African culture in Mexico\, spotlighting the profound influence of Black individuals on the country’s vibrant history and current culture with the aim of finding common ground and promote kinship between Chicago’s Black and Mexican communities. \nThe series transcends the stage to honor the Afro-Mexican population\, a facet often relegated to the sidelines in conversations about Mexico’s ethnic diversity. \nAfrican-influenced styles of Mexican music to be explored include son jarocho\, mariachi\, Chilenas\, and son de artesa. \nWe’re pleased to announce that the 79th Street Renaissance Festival has invited us back to present an abbreviated version of this program. The Festival is located at the intersection of 79th Street and Racine Avenue and presented by the Greater Auburn Gresham Development Corporation. DESCRIPTION:Sones de México Ensemble brings Fiesta Mexicana to iFest Bolingbrook: International Festival of Cultures\, a one-day event celebrating cultures from all over the world. \nFiesta Mexicana is a 45-minute interactive concert for kids and their parents based on our Parent’s Choice Award Winning album of the same name. \nWe’ll embark on a journey through Mexican music and the magic world that surrounds it. Children begin by learning about the four sacred elements of nature for the Aztecs: Earth\, Wind\, Fire\, and Water. Then they learn songs about different animals that inhabit the Mexican ecosystem\, including the acamaya (a crawfish)\, the crocodile\, the legendary mermaid\, a mouse\, a buzzard\, a duck\, and even a cat! Kids will clap Mexican rhythms and learn the difference between a slow and a fast tempo with the help of Doña Sabina\, a 100-year-old special guest. First and foremost\, everyone in the audience will learn how fun it is to play and dance Mexican music. \nThis event is free to the public. iFest showcases ethnic food\, handmade goods and merchandise\, international children’s activities\, cultural entertainment\, educational booths\, and more! DESCRIPTION:Beyond the Music Foodways Edition: A Music and Culinary Geography of Mexico is a lively lecture/demo presentation that combines music and cuisine with a multi-media cultural history of Mexican regions to better understand the origins of the various musical styles and regional cuisines as well as their significance to the diverse peoples that make up Mexico. \nJoin two-time GRAMMY nominated Sones de México Ensemble and award-winning chef Dudley Nieto on a journey to explore Mexico’s geography through a musical and culinary experience. \nThis series is free and open to the public and is presented in collaboration with local organizations throughout the U.S. \nThis program sponsored in part by a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts \nThis program is presented by the Chicago History Museum Civic Season series in which the Museum will serve as a space to help Chicagoans connect with their community\, build new skills\, and provide a roadmap to future community participation so we may all be more informed and engaged citizens.
