AgeGuide and Sounds Good Choir are excited to announce the launch of a new, engaging online singalong program for Spanish-speaking seniors in DuPage, Grundy, Kane, Kankakee, Kendall, Lake, McHenry, Will and Cook Counties. Titled “¡Canta! Radio Recuerdos,” this free membership club offers a unique opportunity for seniors over 60 to connect, reminisce, and enjoy the joy of singing from the comfort of their home.

Led by the singer and guitarist Juan Díes, co-founder of the two-time Grammy-nominated Sones de México Ensemble, and hosted by program assistant Alfredo Hernández, “¡Canta! Radio Recuerdos” invites eligible seniors to join in on the musical festivities via Zoom. This virtual singalong club is a celebration of Latin music classics from Mexico and other Latin American countries.

Regular Singalong Club:
• First and third Thursday of the month
• 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM

Memory Care Singalong:
• Tailored for seniors with memory loss
• Follows the regular singalong club, starting at 12:00 PM
• Caretakers are welcome to join

February 8: The Black Music of Latin America – The American continent has been a melting pot of cultures from all over the world, mainly indigenous, European, and African, which have given Latin music great richness. Today, we will explore the African roots of Latin American music, from the Afro-Caribbean rhythms of merengue, Cuban son, bolero, cumbia, conga, and cha cha to the South American cuecas, bossa nova, and rock & roll. Let’s sing and move with our black music!

AgeGuide y Sounds Good Choir se complacen en anunciar el lanzamiento de un nuevo y divertido programa de canto en línea para personas de habla hispana de la tercera edad en los condados de DuPage, Grundy, Kane, Kankakee, Kendall, Lake, McHenry, Will, y Cook. Bajo el nombre de “¡Canta! Radio Recuerdos”, este club de membresía gratuita ofrece una oportunidad única para que los adultos mayores de 60 años se conecten, recuerden y disfruten de la alegría de cantar desde la comodidad de sus hogares.

Dirigidos por el cantante y guitarrista Juan Díes, cofundador del conjunto Sones de México Ensemble, dos veces nominados a los premios Grammy, y asistido por Alfredo Hernández como maestro de ceremonias, “¡Canta! Radio Recuerdos” invita a personas que llenen los requisitos de membresía a participar en estas sesiones de música por Zoom. Este club virtual de canto es una celebración de los temas clásicos del cancionero popular de México y otros países latinoamericanos.

Club regular de canto:
• Primer y tercer jueves del mes.
• De 11:00 AM a 12:00 PM.

Sesión de Canto para personas con pérdida de memoria:
• Adaptada para adultos mayores con pérdida de memoria.
• Sigue al club regular de canto, comenzando a las 12:00 PM.
• Los cuidadores también son bienvenidos.

08 de febrero: La Música Negra en América Latina – El continente americano ha sido un crisol de culturas de todo el mundo, principalmente indígenas, europeas y africanas, que le han dado a nuestra música una gran riqueza. Hoy exploraremos las raíces negras de la música Latinoamericana, desde los ritmos afrocaribeños del merengue, son cubano, bolero, cumbia, conga y cha cha cha hasta las cuecas sudamericanas, el bossa nova y el rock and roll. ¡Vamos a cantar y a movernos con nuestra música negra!
