LOCATION: Earlham College – Fine Arts Building
Learn to write an authentic Mexican “corrido” in this free, two‐hour workshop (in Spanish) during Earlham’s Homecoming Weekend. This workshop is led by Juan Dies (EC’88 Music & SoAn Major) and is part of a 2018 US Corrido Songwriting Tour sponsored in part by a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts. Admission is free and open to the public of all ages.
By the end of this workshop the class will have written and performed an original song in a corrido form. The corrido is a 150‐year-old Mexican ballad tradition that narrates tragic tales based on true events and honors folk heroes. Learn about the history of this tradition and the rules for writing the poetic lyrics of these captivating songs.

Aprende a escribir un auténtico “corrido” mexicano en este taller gratuito y abierto al público (en español) durante la reunión anual de exalumnos de Earlham. La clase será impartida por Juan Dies (Generación ’88 Facultad de Sociologia/Antrolplogia y Música) y es parte de la gira nacional del Taller de Composición de Corridos 2018 patrocinado en parte por un subsidio del Fando Nacional Para las Artes (National Endowment for the Arts). La entrada es gratis y abierta al público general.
Al completar el taller, la clase habrá escrito y cantado un corrido original. El corrido es una tradición mexicana con mas de 150 años de historia que celebra héroes e historias trágicas locales. Aprende mas sobre la historia y las reglas poéticas de esta captivante tradición musical mexicana.
