Sones de México Ensemble visits the James Lumber Center for the Performing Arts at the College of Lake County for a pair of performances. Sones de México Ensemble joins the Mexican Folkloric Dance Company of Chicago for a special evening celebrating Mexican culture, music and dance. The Mexican Folkloric Dance Company of Chicago was founded in 1982 by José Luis and Matie Ovalle, its present artistic directors and choreographers. As Chicago's oldest Mexican dance institution, MFDC has received countless recognition and awards, has performed for three presidents and represented Mexico in the 1994 USA World Cup opening ceremony. Sones de México Ensemble travels to the Quad Cities for an outdoor public concert at the Mercado on Fifth. Mercado on Fifth is a night market that runs every Friday from 5 PM to 9 PM in the Floreciente neighborhood on 5th Avenue between 11th and 12th Streets in Moline. Sones de México Ensemble travels to the nation's capital to celebrate Día de los Muertos at the Potomac Atrium of National Museum of the American Indian. The concert will also be webcast live. This collaboration between the Smithsonian Latino Center and the National Museum of the American Indian celebrates Native ancestors and connect with living Native cultures. This program bridges the commemoration of Day of the Dead with the contemporary focus of Native American Heritage Month. Free and open to the public.
