7th Annual Day of the Immigrant Concert & Workshop

Sones de México Ensemble joins the 7th Annual Day of the Immigrant event sponsored by the Southwest Suburban Immigrant Project. The all-day event runs from 2 to 11PM. The band will perform an hour long concert beginning at 7PM. They will share the bill with the renowned Grupo Bryndis from Cerritos, San Luis Potosi, Mexico and the cumbia kings La Sonora Dinamita from Cartagena, Colombia.
Earlier in the day at 3PM, Sones de México members Juan Díes and Erendira Izguerra will conduct a Danza de Viejitos Mask Making Workshop for families. Children will learn how to make a mask out of paper while they learn about the traditions of the P’urhépecha people of Michoacan. At the conclusion, children will learn the dance of “old people” (viejitos), where they can wear their masks.
