Beyond the Music, A Musical Geography of Mexico

Experience a guided tour through Mexico’s folk music regions with music, dance, narration, and multimedia. Different regions of the country have unique instruments, repertoire and techniques rarely heard outside these regions. Some of the styles covered include son jarocho, son huasteco, gusto, son istmeño, chilenas, and a dozen other styles. Discover everything you ever wanted to know about Mexico’s regional folk culture and music.
The presentation takes place at the College of Lake County’s Southlake Campus in Vernon Hills, IL.
This is a free, pre-concert lecture for the upcoming September 22 show at the James Lumber Center for the Performing Arts at the College of Lake County.
