September 22, 2019 @ 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm

$5 – $20

Sones de México Ensemble visits the James Lumber Center for the Performing Arts at the College of Lake County.

Formed in the artistic heart of Chicago’s historic Pilsen neighborhood, Sones de México Ensemble is the country’s premier Mexican folk music organization.

Grammy-nominated and voted “Best Latin Entertainer” at the Chicago Music Awards (2015-2018), the group is helmed by co-founder and ethnomusicologist Juan Díes, who was recently awarded a USA Fellowship. With an impassioned mission to share folk and traditional music and culture through innovative performance and education, the acclaimed musicians interweave song, dance and storytelling to create a cross-cultural banquet of engaging and innovative regional music.

The concert will be preceded by two free presentations of the National Endowment for the Arts supported lecture/demo program “Beyond the Music, A Musical Geography of Mexico”: Thursday, September 19 at 12 noon at the College of Lake County Southlake Campus in Vernon Hills and later that afternoon at 4:30 PM at the College of Lake County Lakeshore Campus in Waukegan.
