Musical Geography of Mexico Live in DeKalb, IL

A live, in-person presentation of our signature “Beyond the Music, A Musical Geography of Mexico” returns to the stage for our Día de los Muertos Tour!

With the help of a map and a collection of dozens of authentic musical instruments, Sones de México Ensemble will take you on a one-hour musical journey through various cultural regions of Mexico presenting Aztec dance, norteña music, and each of the eight Mexican sones (or song styles) son abajeño, son planeco, son de mariachi, son de tarima, son istmeño, son de marimba, son jarocho, and other styles of traditional music with instruments, dance, repertoire and techniques rarely seen outside their regions.

Special guest artists: The NIU Mexican brass banda program c/o Chris Scanlon, DMA, NIU Professor of Trumpet
