Beyond the Music: A Musical Geography of Mexico at Darwin Elementary School

February 25, 2017 @ 9:30 am - 11:30 am

Sones de México Education celebrates its Mexican music program at Darwin Elementary School with a FREE AND OPEN TO THE PUBLIC performance of its signature lecture and demo program ‘Beyond the Music: A Musical Geography of Mexico’.

QUIZ: Where are Tapatíos, Jarochos, Regios, Chilangos, and Calentanos from? What is their music like, and how did it come to sound like that?

Experience a guided tour through Mexico’s folk music regions with live demonstrations by the Ensemble. Find out everything you ever wanted to know about Mexico’s regional folk culture and music (but were afraid to ask).

This presentation of ‘Beyond the Music’ will be preceeded by a free Mexican music singing class.

Darwin Elementary School Auditorium
3116 W. Belden Ave, Chicago

ADMISSION IS FREE AND OPEN TO THE PUBLIC.

This program is sponsored in part by a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts.
